ATWT: Four and Twenty Blackbirds
Title: Four and Twenty Blackbirds
Author:

Rating: G
Pairings: Well, none, really. Hints of past Luke/Noah.
Word count: ~450

Author's notes: So at the end of the 8/18/2010 episode, Katie told Chris that Jacob was staying over at Ali's. Wonder how Ali's roommate felt about that? Inspired by a tweet from
dirklover23. :)

Ali stared. "How the heck did you do that?" she whispered
Noah looked up at her, frowning slightly in confusion. "Do what?" he whispered back.
"Get him to sleep like that." She sank down onto the end of the sofa nearest where Noah sat in an armchair, Jacob lying curled against his broad chest, sleeping like a ... well.
Noah's expression grew even more puzzled. "I just ... held him? Walked around a little, hummed a little. Sat down when he fell asleep. Same thing I always did with Ethan and Eliza."
Ali flopped back against the cushions. "Jesus," she said, keeping her voice as carefully low as Noah's. "Can you give Casey lessons? Or heck, give me lessons? Last time we kept Jacob he screamed for four hours straight."
Jacob shifted and made a small noise. Ali froze, but Noah just bounced Jacob lightly and patted his back, and he settled right back into sleep.
"Colic, probably," Noah said, thoughtful. "Or maybe teething. Next time try a tummy massage, or a cold teething ring."
Ali was dumfounded. All the things she thought she knew about Noah, all the time they'd spent together, and she never had a clue that he was some kind of baby expert.
"How the heck did you learn all this stuff?" she asked. "I mean, I know you lived at the farm when Ethan and Eliza were younger, but I never had any idea you actually took care of them."
Noah shrugged one shoulder, the one Jacob wasn't currently drooling on. "Sure I did," he said. "I helped out with everything. It's a family farm. Everyone who lives there chips in on pretty much whatever needs doing."
Ali smiled. "So does that mean you can bake pies, too?"
Noah grinned. "Okay, so there were some things Emma wouldn't let anyone else touch," he conceded. "But I sliced enough apples and diced enough rhubarb to feed half the state. If you weren't in on the cooking, you were at least in on the prep."
Ali laughed softly and rested her elbow on the arm of the sofa and her head on her hand. She took in the picture of Noah holding Jacob, tiny head of dark hair tucked under Noah's chin, one of Noah's large hands supporting his bottom while the fingers of the other slid gently up and down Jacob's narrow back.
"I think I just ovulated," she murmured.
The look of confusion was back on Noah's face, but Ali just waved her free hand at him. "Don't worry about it," she said. "You just keep doing your thing over there. Keep Jacob happy. Who knows?" She grinned. "Maybe I'll even bake you a pie."
