Department of Backstory: ATWT

Here's a brief recap of things that would be helpful to know before reading my ATWT stories. There is a LOT more to tell, of course, but this is a start. :)

Luke Snyder and Noah Mayer met in the summer of 2007, when they were both ~18 years old and worked as interns at a television station in Oakdale, Illinois (where ATWT is set). Noah first started dating Luke's friend Maddie, but he soon admitted that he was really attracted to Luke. They struggled through Noah's coming out (Luke was already out) and have been a couple since later that year. They've split a few times but never really broken up completely. They finally had sex in January 2009 and have been together since then (no breakups). They moved into an apartment this summer as a sublet, to try out living together.

Things likely to turn up in stories:

1. Noah, an aspiring film director, is now a senior in college and working closely with his advisor, Mason, to develop a script for and shoot a short film. There are spoilers that something may go on between Noah and Mason, but it's not clear exactly what. Luke has been shown to be an aspiring writer, and he and Noah have talked about working on projects together.

2. Luke was expelled from school in late 2008 and decided not to go back, instead going to work in the summer of 2009 for his biological father, Damian Grimaldi. His parents, Lily and Holden Snyder (Holden raised him and adopted him), and his grandmother, Lucinda Walsh (Lily's adoptive mother), objected. Noah works part-time at Java, a coffee shop in the Old Town district of Oakdale.

3. When Luke first told Noah he was in love with him, under the mistletoe at Christmas 2007, Noah couldn't quite say it back, so he replied, "Same here." They've repeated the exchange several other times (Noah does stay "I love you" now, too). The "Hello, Luke"/"Hello, Noah" exchange comes from a foreplay interruptus scene in early 2008.

4. Luke and Noah had a hilarious and extremely innuendo-laden conversation over sandwiches in early 2008, during which they discussed various possible scenarios of what they wanted their first time to be like. Earlier the same day, Luke had also discussed their relationship with his Aunt Meg.

5. Luke was a complete virgin before Noah. Noah had slept with at least one woman but never had a relationship with a man. He says at one point that Luke was the first man he'd really had a strong attraction to; it's not clear if something else may have gone on earlier or if it was just his interest in film and theater that made his father suspect he was gay.

6. Holden can get tickets to Chicago sporting events through a ticket broker friend. He also took them to New York to see the Cubs and Mets play in the spring of 2009. As of early September 2009, Holden is presumed by his family to be dead in a car accident (but he's alive).

7. Noah went on a film class trip to Italy in the fall of 2008 and was gone for several weeks. He came back early because, he said, he missed Luke.

8. Right before the Italy trip, Noah and Luke went camping with Lucinda and Brian, the newly installed head of Luke's charitable foundation. The trip was ostensibly to hunt for mushrooms. It was very, very strange. *g*

9. Luke has three younger siblings, Faith, Natalie, and Ethan. Faith was about 12 in the story "Figuring It Out."

10. The dinner referred to in that story was an impromptu picnic at the Snyder farm with most of the family plus Noah and his father, who was pretending to be okay with Noah being gay and with Luke. It was at that dinner when he invited the boys on a fishing trip, during which he tried to kill Luke. Luke ended up paralyzed for several months as a result.
